Summer 2020 Environmental Technician Intern

Spend your summer in the Puget Sound area and remote Alaska interning for Sealaska Environmental Services (SES) as the Environmental Technician intern. SES provides contaminated soil and groundwater solutions to a variety of clients including the U.S. Navy, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, U.S. Air Force, and others. You will perform environmental investigations; collect groundwater, surface water, sediment, and soil samples; and perform system operation and maintenance tasks throughout the summer to assist the Environmental Services team in advancing contaminated sites to closure. Working with our teams, you will learn the health and safety requirements to complete fieldwork and various treatment plant operations and environmental sampling at various locations and facilities in the Puget Sound area and in Alaska.

The intern will be based in Poulsbo, WA, with travel to Whidbey Island in Washington State, Adak, AK, and other locations across Western Washington.   

• Aid our teams in conducting environmental investigations
• Sample water quality
• Complete field forms
• Sample groundwater, surface water, soil and sediment
• Learn treatment plant operations
• Conduct chemical and physical tests
• Support our teams in investigations of intuitional controls
• Learn how to operate field equipment including Photo Ionization Detector, 5-Gas monitor, peristaltic pump, submersible pump, Horiba multi-meter, bladder pump and controller, depth to water and fuel meters.
• Learn to ship environmental samples in accordance with applicable regulations
• Understand waste management and characterization

• Sealaska shareholder, descendant of a shareholder, or spouse of a shareholder
• At least 18 years of age by start date
• At least a 2.5 GPA
• Must be currently enrolled in college or a vocational-technical school or a recent graduate (1-2 years) and have completed one year of school by the start date
• Legally authorized to work in the United States

Preferred Additional Requirements:

• Interest in environment stewardship
• Majoring in STEM field or some STEM class enrollment

Additional Requirements:

• Intern must provide copy of a valid driver’s license and proof of insurance for use of company car
• You may be asked to provide proof of your status as a Sealaska shareholder, shareholder descendant, or shareholder spouse
• You must successfully complete a background check prior to onboarding at Sealaska

Applicants must be a current Sealaska shareholder or a Sealaska shareholder descendent.
