Barnacle Foods is searching for a Marketing Intern who has an interest in storytelling and sustainable business. Based in Juneau, AK, Barnacle Foods highlights locally grown, harvested, and foraged ingredients in their products and makes it their priority to have the least impact on the environment as possible.

As an intern at Barnacle Foods, you would support general business activities with a special focus on communications and marketing. Projects will include digital content creation and scheduling, and developing stories around the foods in Southeast Alaska, from recipes to local ingredients to traditional harvesters.

While this internship position can take place remotely, the Barnacle team would prefer the intern to be on-site at their Juneau, AK, location. You may have the opportunity to visit the Barnacle kitchens to experience the entire operation.


  • Collaborate with the Barnacle Foods team to develop digital content strategy.
  • Learn Barnacle Foods brand, tone, and vision in order to implement marketing and promote Barnacle’s story.
  • Write and schedule digital content for newsletters, website, and social media platforms.
  • Maintain cooperative relationships with representatives of the Barnacle community, including consumers, employees, or interest groups.
  • Engage with internal and external sources for marketing content.
  • Edit or rewrite existing copy as necessary and submit copy for approval by supervisor.
  • Organize digital multimedia on cloud-based systems.



  • Coursework in business, marketing, communications, graphic design, or related field
  • Sealaska shareholder, descendant of a shareholder, or spouse of a shareholder
  • At least 18 years of age by start date
  • Must be currently enrolled in college or a vocational-technical school or a recent graduate (1-2 years) and have completed one year of school by the start date
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience or familiarity with social media and digital marketing campaigns
  • Photography or graphic design experience
  • Major/minor in communications, journalism, business, or marketing
  • Prefer GPA over 2.5
  • Strong critical thinking and research skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Able to both collaborate with a team and work independently
  • Self-starter with ability to adapt to a fast-paced work environment
