Overview

Spruce Root is looking for an intern to support their mission to promote economic and social sustainability and resilience in Southeast Alaska. As a non-profit CDFI, Spruce Root provides local entrepreneurs with access to business development and financial resources, such as loans, business coaching, and workshops. As the Community & Economic Development Intern, you will gain intimate knowledge of running a non-profit who aims to increase its clients’ self-sufficiency. You will experience and gain skills in coordinating a team located in various remote locations, grant management, data analysis, financial management, organization, and more. This internship is an opportunity to focus on an area of community development that interests you.

This internship can take place via telecommute or at Spruce Root’s office in Juneau, AK. You may have the opportunity to travel to Juneau or Sitka, AK, or other Southeast Alaska communities to meet team members and learn about Spruce Root’s regional partners and projects.

Responsibilities

  • Support fundraising efforts, including assisting in the preparation of grant applications and reports
  • Support coordination and improvement of organizational processes
  • Assist in planning and execution of Spruce Root-led workshops and other events, including board and committee meetings
  • Support ongoing administrative duties required to operate the organization

Qualifications

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Sealaska shareholder, descendant of a shareholder, or spouse of a shareholder
  • At least 18 years of age by start date
  • Must be currently enrolled in college or a vocational-technical school or a recent graduate (1-2 years) and have completed one year of school by the start date
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • At least a 2.5 GPA
  • Strong critical thinking and research skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Able to both collaborate with a team and work independently
  • Self-starter with ability to adapt to a fast-paced work environment
  • Ability to travel, as needed
