The Sealaska Technical Services (STS) team in Los Alamos, NM, is seeking an Environmental Technician Intern to work within their Water Program. As the Environmental Technician Intern, you will work alongside this team to provide groundwater and surface water monitoring and water remediation services associated with legacy contamination from past operations at Los Alamos National Laboratory.  You will spend much of the summer outdoors hiking and collaborating on projects in both hot and rainy conditions. Project opportunities include will include groundwater and surface water sampling, operation of a pump-and-treat system removing hexavalent chromium from the aquifer, well maintenance, waste management, and data management, interpretation, and reporting. Specific scope will be based on active projects at the time the applicant is accepted into the program.


The internship will take place in Los Alamos, NM. This is a hands-on learning experience with the Water Program team in the field.


  • Monitor and sample groundwater, surface water, and storm water
  • Provide and operate water remediation services and treatments
  • Work on projects related to structure development for erosion prevention
  • Conduct surveys
  • Manage, interpret, and report data and findings



  • Majoring in a Science field (Geology, Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Science), Environmental or Civil Engineering
  • Physically fit and in demonstrated good health
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Sealaska shareholder, descendant of a shareholder, or spouse of a shareholder
  • At least 18 years of age by start date
  • Must be currently enrolled in college or a vocational-technical school or a recent graduate (1-2 years) and have completed one year of school by the start date
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States

Preferred Additional Requirements:

  • Junior or Senior academic standing
  • At least a 2.5 GPA
  • Strong critical thinking and research skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Able to both collaborate with a team and work independently
  • Self-starter with ability to adapt to a fast-paced work environment
  • Ability to travel, as needed

  • Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee will primarily work in a field oriented setting.  Hiking in both hot and rainy conditions is mandatory.
