Overview

Learn about emergency management and mitigation across tribal lands as the Emergency Management Intern! As part of Sealaska’s Managed Business Solutions (MBS) team, you will assist in writing and development Emergency Action Plans (EAPs) and other emergency plans. You will help development practical tools and safety measures, such as Table Top Exercises and Functional Exercises (TTX/FX). With the team, you will help coordinate and facilitate these exercises at Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) regions. This internship can take place remotely via telecommute, with the option to travel to training locations.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in writing and developing Emergency Action Plans (EAPs) and other emergency plans.
  • Develop Table Top Exercises and Functional Exercises (TTX/FX)
  • Help coordinate and facilitate exercises
  • Other duties, as assigned

Qualifications

  • Studying Emergency Management, Natural Disaster Management, Homeland Security, or Public Affairs
  • Ability to work independently and as a team
  • Sealaska shareholder, descendant of a shareholder, or spouse of a shareholder
  • At least 18 years of age by start date
  • Must be currently enrolled in college or a vocational-technical school or a recent graduate (1-2 years)
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Having been part of an Emergency Operations Center (EOC) or volunteer work during a natural disaster.
  • At least a 2.5 GPA
  • Strong critical thinking and research skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Able to both collaborate with a team and work independently
  • Self-starter with ability to adapt to a fast-paced work environment
  • Ability to travel, as needed
