As the Finance Intern, you will analyze market trends and make recommendations to help guide Sealaska’s investment decisions. Apply your economics and financial course work as you collaborate with the Chief Executive Officer to understand, review, and report on investment market updates. Throughout the summer, your work will focus on the benefits and responsibilities of incorporating Environmental, Social, and Corporate Governance (ESG) considerations into investment analysis. Craft internal investment policy documents that work toward de-carbonization, financial equity, and transparency. By the end of the summer, your work will support investment recommendations for management to present the Board of Directors.   This internship can be based in the Sealaska corporate office in Juneau, AK, or has the option of taking place via telecommute or remote location.

Support Barnacle Food’s plan to sustainably harvest kelp in Southeast Alaska. As the Kelp Management Plan Intern, you will become part of the Barnacle team of food enthusiasts creating unique products from Alaskan coastline ingredients.   Barnacle is working to formalize a kelp harvesting management plan and is looking for an intern to assist with research and communication. Apply your interest or course work in marine sciences to connect with researchers, provide input, and gather data on sustainable ocean harvesting. Compile information from government officials and regulatory professionals about harvesting regulations and provide input based on your findings. In addition to this project, you will likely work on other aspects of the Barnacle Foods business.   While this internship position can take place remotely, the Barnacle team would prefer the intern to be on-site at their Juneau, AK, location. You may have the opportunity to accompany Barnacle team members on daytrips via boat to harvest kelp and conduct kelp bed surveys.

Sealaska Heritage Institute’s (SHI) mission is to perpetuate and enhance the cultures of the Tlingit, Haida, and Tsimshian people, promoting cultural diversity and cross-cultural understanding. As the Culture & History Intern, you will gain introductory knowledge and hands-on experience in the library/archives/museum fields. You will become proficient in the use of SHI’s online collections database, gain experience with digital and physical archival and objects collections, and gain understanding of collections best practices. Enhance your Indigenous studies or anthropology courses while you develop skills in cultural interpretation. Your work this summer will help you become more familiar with the concept of Indigenous cultural landscapes, especially those of Southeast Alaska. This internship will take place in-person at the Sealaska Heritage Institute office in Juneau, AK. Depending on company and local health guidelines, the intern may have the opportunity to lead public tours of SHI’s exhibits onsite in downtown Juneau.
